Quartz Kitchen Worktops – FAQs

Do quartz worktops need to be sealed?

No, quartz is non-porous, so it doesn’t require sealing. This makes it highly resistant to stains and easy to clean with just mild soap and water.

How does quartz compare to marble or granite?

Quartz is more consistent in appearance than marble or granite, making it ideal for a sleek, uniform look. It’s also more resistant to staining and doesn’t require sealing, unlike natural stones. However, it has slightly less heat resistance than granite and lacks the organic variation found in marble.

Can I put hot pans directly on a quartz worktop?

While quartz is heat resistant to a degree, we recommend using trivets or heat pads to protect the surface from thermal shock, which could cause cracking or discolouration. Stone Italiana quartz has a higher heat resistance than most other quartz slabs on the market but we still recommend using a barrier such as a trivet for pans.

Is quartz suitable for bathrooms as well as kitchens?

Yes, quartz is a versatile material that works well in bathrooms, utility rooms, and other high-moisture environments thanks to its non-porous nature..

Is quartz eco-friendly?

Many quartz brands incorporate recycled materials and sustainable manufacturing processes. We’ll guide you through the available options if environmental impact is important to your project. Stone Italiana has low silica, zero silica and also 100% recycled ranges. They are fully supported by EPD documentation and carbon footprint assessments. Ask us for more details.

Can I get a book-matched or vein-matched quartz slab?

Yes. Quartz slabs are manufactured with consistent patterns, so vein-matching and book-matching is possible. Some ranges are designed with beautiful directional veining for visual flow, which we can align during fabrication and installation.
