Crafting the perfect home bar: the Classico Marble guide to choosing the correct worksurface

At our family-owned stonemasonry business in Berkshire, we’ve spent the last 30 years perfecting the art of crafting beautiful worksurfaces. From luxury retail stores to chic home bars, we’ve seen and done it all. Our team combines years of experience with the latest precision machinery to create stunning, durable surfaces for any space.
Home bars are definitely becoming more popular. But whether they are a simple drinks or coffee station for the daytime or as a focal point in an interior centred around relaxation and entertainment, choosing the right worksurface is key to ensuring your bar looks great and stands up to frequent use.

Which worksurface material should you choose for a home bar?
Here are our top three choices for home bar worksurface materials:
1. Manmade materials – Stone Italiana Quartz and Cosmolite
For home bars that will see a lot of use, Stone Italiana quartz and Cosmolite surfaces are your best bet. These materials are incredibly durable, resistant to scratches, stains, and heat, and are designed to keep your bar looking fresh for years. Cosmolite is also 100% recycled, so you can enjoy a beautiful surface while being kind to the planet.
2. Marble and Granite
Marble and granite are classic choices that add a touch of luxury to any home bar. Both are hardwearing and can handle heavy use. However, marble needs a bit more care – spills should be wiped up quickly, and it requires sealing to keep it looking its best. Granite is less porous but also benefits from occasional sealing. These materials are perfect for those who want a timeless, elegant look.
3. Quartzite
For a natural material that’s both stunning and durable, quartzite is a fantastic option. It’s incredibly hardwearing and comes in beautiful colours and patterns, making each piece unique. Processing quartzite can be costly due to its hardness, but the result is a surface that’s as strong as it is beautiful – ideal for families and busy home bars.
3. Porcelain
Porcelain is a great choice for a home bar as it is durable, stain resistant and has a high resistance to scratching too. There is a wide range of pattern types from solid colour to marble-look veined, and the slab patterning is consistent and uniform. Some porcelain slabs are UV resistant too which makes them ideal for sunny rooms and outdoor bars too.

Precision and craftsmanship
Every project we undertake is a blend of precision, the latest technology and traditional craftsmanship. We use a specialist laser templating system to create digital templates, which are then turned into CAD drawings and laid over high-resolution images of your chosen slab. This way you can see how the veining and/or striations will look on your finished worksurface. Once you approve the design layout, we program our high tech Donatoni machinery to cut the surfaces precisely, followed by hand-finishing by our expert stonemasons for that perfect touch.
Collaborations and clientele
We’ve had the pleasure of working with top developers like EAB Homes, Berkeley Homes, and Zafiro Homes, as well as design firms such as Elementi Cucina, KCA, Cottura Design and McEvoy & Rowley. Our dedication to quality and attention to detail make us a trusted partner for design studios, interior designers, and homeowners.
Home bars are more than just functional spaces; they’re places to unwind and socialise. Whether it’s part of a media room or an open-plan kitchen and living area, the right worksurface can elevate the entire space. By choosing the best materials and relying on expert craftsmanship, your home bar can be a standout feature in your home.
